I often sail alone and have found that a tiller extension allows me to move my weight forward which seems to help balance the boat in light air, and is also handy when the blows come and I need to hike out a bit. It's held in place on top of the tiller with strong magnets when not needed. If anyone's interested, I'll put the U-joint and magnets for sale in the HavenBuilders Store.
