Pierre: Your progress is great and looks very good. In looking over your pictures I saw your finished keel. Perhaps you could describe the finish that you used to make it look so great??? Thanks Jack

Thanks Jack for the comment and sorry for the delay !

Regarding my lead keel, I didn't pour the lead continuously which means 7 layers were built up and barely sticked together as expected once the mold removed. As explained into the book, I did use a 3" power planer to fair the keel.

I did route all edges including the CB slot to 1" radius before applying 4 layers of fiberglass clothing of 33oz saturated into epoxy. I did sand to final shape and add a layer again of fiberglass but 10oz this time. Routed again all edges before adding 2 thin coats of epoxy.

The result is quite impressive and very stiff ! It is now just .250" wider than original shape. This way of doing will protect the lead kell from impact and no dent will appear if happen.

The lead keel will be prefit (and remove after)to the wood keel before doing the strip planking. While the hull is still upside down, I will do the deadwood and fixe it permanently to the wood keel.

I' m planning to slow down before the summer is coming because sailing season is close and nothing will justify such a sacrifice ...

À suivre !

Pierre
