I began to line off today using the plank width measurements given in the back of the "how to" book. Everything went well until I got to the "stern" measurements. Where do you place these measurements on the boat: on the transom itself or on frame 22?

Also, I placed the other frame measurements (#3, 8, 13, and 18) at the station face of the frame. I was wondering if this is correct as the pictures in the book show them placing the marks in the middle of the frame.

Thanks.

Hello John.... I am quite sure that the stern measurements are on the transom. As to your second question, I'm not sure I understand; perhaps if you reference the page number or photo number it will be more clear.

Hey Tom,

The measurements marked "stern" are indeed at the transom. Initially I was trying to mark the measurements by having the tick strip follow the curve and angle of the transom. This doesn't work You have to be perpendicular to the keel to get accurate marks.

My other concern was where to mark the other frames: front, back, versus middle of the frame. This only makes a difference at frame #3 where the keel rabbet is quickly changing and you could be off by as much as an inch. I chose to mark the station face side of the frames to be consistent. I figure, it doesn't matter as all you're trying to produce is a fair curve when all is said and done. The points should match the sheerstrake points on the molds and hit the stem rabbet and transom in the correct spots.
