Starting to think about buying mahogany for shear planks. What size planks have others bought for this part?
Also wondering about the rest of the mahogany pieces (coamings, seats, toe rails). Any good estimates on how much and in what dimensions I need on these pieces. I should be able to get the wood cheaper if I buy it all at once. Then again, I probably can't afford it all at once.

I got both my sheer planks out of a 9" wide board.I have two other long planks that measure proud of an 1 1/8" that I am hoping to get resawn into 1/2" boards for the coamings and coverboards. Can't stand the thought of planing away all that expensive wood. I haven't got that far along though so I don't know any measurements yet. I think the toe rails are about 9 feet, the same as the trim piece of mahogany that gets glued to the edge of the plywood deck forward. The bench seats are under 8'and if you are doing a glue up should be able to get them from a 10"wide board. Don't forget the bits of trim pieces and moldings.next newest topic | next oldest topic
