I'm on my fifth plank and have run out of wide planks. I see that the rest will be scarfed. Has everyone else had to scarf or are my spilings wrong. I can barely cut a plank from 12in wide flitches. My flitches also taper down a little but the third plank takes 12in wide wood and I assume the rest get wider up to the sheer.

The fifth and sixth planks were scarfed on my boat as well. After that they start to straighten out again, so save some good long wide planks for planks 7-9. Put a dogleg in your scarfs so you can do with narrower planks and stagger them. I think most people will suggest a 12:1 scarf.

Not knowing the planking widths was confusing. Now that all my planks are finished Im able to pass on this info . Hope it helps.. Garbord was got out of a six inch plank , just. next four required 12 inch. nr 6 would have been 14 inch which I did not have. from here I used 6 inch boards and but blocks for 6, 7, 8..The but blocks worked out really well bedded in sika at stations near 13 for plank 6, 9 for plank 7 and 5 for plank nr 8. plank nr 9 is nearly straight and a 6 inch flitch does it as well as the Sheer strakes..
