Alpha-II

New for 2001

New deck of 1/4" marine mahogany plywood
New white paint inside, grey floor.
A 2 ft. hiking stick has been added to the 7 ft. tiller using a universal hinge.  Magnets hold the hiking stick in-line when not in use.  The black plastic plate seen in the lower right hand corner is for mounting the Minn-Kota electric trolling motor.  A shock cord is clipped to the tiller when the boat is on the Shore Stand.
The Minn-Kota motor is stored in the aft section when not in use.  A battery box is mounted aft to supply power for the motor as well as an automatic bilge pump.  These pictures were taken while the boat was on the shore stand next to the dock.  The grey strap secures the boat to the Shore Stand.  Since I have no cover for the boat, the bilge pump keeps the boat dry while on the Shore Stand.

There is a 6" diameter PCV tube on either side of the centerboard well next to the middle thwart.  The main and jib halyards lead to jam cleats on the sides of the centerboard well.  The halyards are kept from getting underfoot when sails are up by stowing them in the PVC tubes.

The boat is completely set up for single handing, with all lines led to the middle thwart where they are in easy reach of the skipper.  Slides have been sewn into the leading edge of the sail so that the sail will go up and down easily.
A topping lift goes from the end of the boom to the top of the mast and is led to a jam cleat on the middle thwart.  This allows the height of the boom to be adjusted high enough to be out of the way when taking down the main sail, rowing, or motoring.
